" I have been working with John as my trainer for over six years. During that time he has guided me to where I am much stronger, have significantly better balance and increased my flexibility. I am an avid golfer and John has focused on specific training and exercises to improve my golf swing and in doing so has helped me to become more consistent and I have not lost distance as I age. John’s knowledge of the body is unbelievable. There has been no ache or pain that he hasn’t had a stretch or an exercise that helped me get beyond it. John continues to expand his knowledge so he can bring the most advanced techniques to his clients. I appreciate John three mornings a week. He always greets me with a smile and a handshake and is never distracted during our training session. He is focused on encouraging me and making sure I perform the exercise in proper form to avoid any injury. Thanks John for all you do in making my life better! "
-Bill Morgan, Buckingham Financial
"I first started working with John at Saturday morning HIIT class through the encouragement of a colleague.
As I also worked out on my own on other days, I eventually developed nagging shoulder and knee issues.
After consulting John with a training session, he corrected my alignment with quick resolution of early injuries that may have led to intensive physical therapy and surgery.
What is known as functional training prevents injuries incurred in every day life- lifting heavy suitcases , taking out the trash, shoveling, and even avoiding unexpected slip and falls through better balance.
Working with John gives me energy for busy days, increases my sense of well-being, and prepares me for my graying years.
John is not only passionate about the care of his clients, he is truly a genius!"
- James Restrepo, M.D.
"I am over 65 and have been working with John for five years. I have had a number of trainers in the past and John is by far the best (and smartest) that I have had. He combines his background in kinesiology and his continual reading and attendance at workshops. A few things worth mentioning:
1. I've never had a trainer before with whom I don't look longingly at the clock for the session to end. Sometimes, believe it or not, I am disappointed when my time is up.
2. John is great at individualizing his workouts for the individual, their goals, and what has been happening with them that day or recently. His work with my wife is very different from mine.
3. The variety of exercises he comes up with seems endless. There are always some "old favorites" but a few surprises.
4. In his work with me John doesn't push me to the point of misery. Rather, I exert myself, continue to make gains, without dreading a painful or miserable experience.
5. Although he will work with all ages, he has developed a specialty with those 50 and over. He is interested in maintaining the kind of fitness that allows one to get the most out of life. He stresses balance, endurance and strength as three pillars. Although some workouts emphasize one more than the other , overall I find myself improving in all three. I continue to be able to carry my young grandchildren, and still lift the eight and eleven years old. When we travel, walking 20,000 steps in a hilly city is no problem for both my wife and myself."

This is a condensed video of a Square 1 Systems session. Fellow colleague Nate tested his max lift; the back squat. The goal of the session, can we increase Nate’s max lift? During each warm up lift and max lift, Nate was Square 1 between each max rep. The results speak from themselves. Square 1 Systems is not a replacement for a training program but is an amazing adjunct to all training programs.
